At MKY Orthodontics, we understand that your family has a rhythm all its own — and when life is filled with school, sports, and everything in between, orthodontics might not be top of mind. But here’s something worth adding to your calendar: your child’s first orthodontic evaluation around age 7.
Yes — seven!
While many people think braces are just for teens, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends children have their first checkup with an orthodontist no later than age 7. And Dr. Benjamin Yucha and Dr. Richard Kaye couldn’t agree more.
By this point, your child’s smile is in a sweet spot — a mix of baby teeth and permanent teeth that allows us to catch potential concerns early. That doesn’t mean braces right away. But it does mean we can help guide their growth and development in a way that’s proactive, gentle, and often simpler in the long run.
Monitor bite alignment and jaw development
Spot crowding before it becomes a bigger issue
Address habits like thumb sucking
Create space for adult teeth to come in properly
Potentially reduce the need for more complex treatment later
If Dr. Yucha or Dr. Kaye recommends early treatment, it’s always tailored to your child and designed to fit your family’s lifestyle. We may suggest a two-phase approach:
Phase 1 focuses on setting the foundation for a healthy bite and smile while your child is still growing.
Phase 2 — if needed — usually happens in the teen years, and is often shorter and simpler thanks to the early groundwork we’ve laid.
That’s great, too! Many kids just need a quick check and some occasional monitoring. You’ll walk away with clarity, peace of mind, and a plan that makes sense for your child — not someone else’s.
At MKY Orthodontics, we’re here to make orthodontic care fit seamlessly into your family’s world — with flexible scheduling, understanding payment options, and a welcoming team that treats you like one of our own.
A quick visit now could set the stage for a lifetime of confident smiles.
